On Saturday, September 21, NACDS team members convened on the National Mall to participate in the American Diabetes Association’s® (ADA) Step Out DMV event — ADA’s premier walking fundraising event to end diabetes. “DMV” refers to the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

NACDS’ support of this local community event will help the ADA continue its lifesaving work to make breakthroughs in research and to provide people with the resources they need to manage diabetes.

Previously, NACDS announced that it would be teaming up with the ADA during the ADA’s Tour de Cure® (cycling event) and Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes® (walking event) to provide critical nutrition education to the event participants. Running through the end of 2024, the cycling and walking events are set to feature NACDS’ Nourish My Health public education campaign — a collaborative effort with the ADA and other leading health partners designed to educate Americans on the protective health benefits of nutritious food in reducing the risk of conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Nourish My Health was developed in response to the 2022 White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health — the basis for the national strategy to end hunger, improve nutrition and reduce disease — and comes as part of the vibrant Health and Wellness Innovation Initiative at NACDS.

In addition to partnering health organizations, NACDS member pharmacy companies are participating in Nourish My Health at select locations, leveraging scheduled wellness events, immunization clinics and awareness events.

NACDS is showcasing these efforts.

In August, NACDS released a series of social posts in honor of National Immunization Awareness Month, highlighting NACDS-member pharmacies’ role in supporting the public’s health through vaccination access and uptake, and by providing variety of chronic disease management and prevention services.
