On Monday, October 16, ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason wrote in an ASAE member update:
- “I always look for good examples of associations working together in service of a greater good. Recently, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association ®, the American Heart Association, and the Food is Medicine Institute at Tufts University launched an integrated public education campaign called “Nourish My Health,” focused on helping Americans embrace the protective health benefits that nutritious food provides in reducing the risk of diet-related conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and many types of cancer.
- “Poor nutrition is the number one cause of poor health outcomes in the United States, with billions of dollars spent annually on preventable, diet-related diseases. The campaign was conceived and developed as a commitment by NACDS to the 2022 White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health and the associated national strategy to end hunger, improve nutrition and reduce diet-related diseases. Congratulations to NACDS and its partner organizations!”
Then, on Wednesday, October 18, Associations Now – an ASAE publication – reported on “Nourish My Health,” saying:
- “The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has partnered with multiple health groups to ramp up basic health screenings at neighborhood pharmacies.”
- NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson says in the article that the campaign flows naturally from Americans’ reliance on pharmacies during the pandemic and beyond: “People were discovering they could get more healthcare in pharmacies than they thought they could. We’re protecting the core in terms of what we’re doing on pharmacy issues, but we’re expanding into new areas.”
Anderson chaired ASAE’s Board of Directors from 2021-2022, and chaired the ASAE Research Foundation from 2020-2021.
