NACDS has been highly visible in policy and political publications on the topic of PBM reform — calling on the U.S. Congress to deliver on this unique moment of opportunity to reduce patients’ prescription drug costs, to defend patients’ access to pharmacies, and to stop the PBM tactics jeopardizing all Americans and all pharmacies.
Following the November 8 U.S. Senate Finance Committee (26-0 bipartisan vote) markup on a legislative package containing significant PBM reforms in Medicare and Medicaid, NACDS was quoted in several media outlets:
A November 8 Bloomberg Government article included this NACDS quote: “It is time to capitalize on this historic and bipartisan momentum, and not to allow PBMs to complicate and derail the legislation and the process.”
A November 8 Fierce Healthcare article included this NACDS quote: “Make no mistake: Real PBM reform at the federal level must protect Americans on Medicare and Medicaid and their pharmacies. We urge the U.S. Senate and House leadership to enact real PBM reform this year, so that the most vulnerable Americans maintain access to all pharmacies on which they rely.”
A November 8 Modern Healthcare article included this NACDS quote: “We commend the Senate Finance Committee’s bipartisan work to deliver on this unique moment of opportunity to reduce patients’ prescription drug costs, to defend patients’ access to medications and to pharmacies and to confront abusive PBM tactics that jeopardize all Americans and all pharmacies.”
NACDS also issued a press release praising action in the U.S. House of Representatives. The November 15 NACDS statement applauds the successful markup and bipartisan passage of additional PBM reform bills by the Health Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee.
A November 16 Fierce Healthcare article included this NACDS quote on the topic: “We are seeing clear alignment between committee action in the House and in the Senate on PBM reforms for Medicare and Medicaid. NACDS also voices the critical importance of the Neighborhood Options for Patients Buying Medicines (NO PBMs) Act and vital enforcement provisions, which have been included in legislation passed by the Senate Finance Committee and which merit a commitment to action in the House.”
A cable, broadcast, and digital ad by NACDS also emphasizes the vital theme of “real reform” – calling on the U.S. Congress to stop abusive PBM tactics, while also strengthening oversight of PBMs, ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness.
