Sen. Joni Ernst’s bill would create flexible, state-focused drug disposal strategies to help address the opioid abuse epidemic. The legislation is consistent with the spirit of NACDS’ policy recommendations and with pharmacies’ current drug disposal initiatives.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds (R) signed HF 2377, an opioid omnibus bill which includes an electronic prescribing requirement for all drugs in the state of Iowa, effective January 1, 2020.

Governor Mary Fallin (R) signed into law House Bill 2931, which mandates electronic prescribing for Schedule II through V controlled substances in the state of Oklahoma, effective January 1, 2020.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed into law House Bill 1993, which requires that on or after January 1, 2020, prescriptions for Schedule II controlled substances in the state of Tennessee must be issued as an electronic prescription from the person issuing the prescription to a pharmacy.
The bill – the Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act (H.R. 3528) – would require electronic prescribing for Schedule II through V controlled substances prescriptions covered under Medicare Part D to help prevent fraud, abuse and waste.
